Ancient Bakery “Gentile” in Bari – Dante Road
In Bari there is a little bakery with a great history. Its name is “Gentile”, situated in Bari, its address is Via Dante Alighieri no. 409 and there you’ll find all sweet and savory apulian specialties.
This bakery begins its history in the last century – end of 1800 – and nowadays Michele Gentile (father) and Gaetano Gentile (son) are the fifth and sixth generation.
In their store are all the scents and flavours of tradition, there you can taste the original “focaccia barese” (its like a pizza, but better), bread, biscuits, “Taralli” and so much more. Michele and Gaetano are simple and kind people, always ready to give you another taste in addition to what you bought.
The place and the owners deserve a break.

FLAG: “La Locanda dei Mascalzoni”
ADDRESS AND TOWN: Via Martina Franca, 90 – Cisternino (BR) – Apulia
WEBSITE: None
LOCAL PRODUCTS – TYPICAL CUISINE: Great selection and variety of local seasonal products. The dishes are traditional, almost all of local and regional cuisine, thanks to the owner’s mother who takes care of food preparation and kitchen management. Everything we tasted was very very tasty.
LOCATION AND INTERIORS: “Locanda dei Mascalzoni” is 5 minutes walking from the old town of Cisternino, this little town worth a visit. In the direction of the old town and not far from the room there are also gardens with terrace overlooking the Itria Valley too.
The interior of Locanda is very spacious. The outdoor patio is large and it is pleasant to spend time to dine in the summer. Well attended.
PRICES: Appetizers – average € 9,00 // First Courses – average € 8,50 // Second Courses – average € 12,00 // Pizzas – average € 6,50
BIKER FRIENDLY: There is a private parking zone, not on the street, but during the summer the shade is scarce.

Pizzeria “Da Clà” – Bari – Apulia
FLAG: Pizzeria – Restaurant “Da Clà”
ADDRESS AND TOWN: Via San Francesco D’Assisi, 45 – Bari – Apulia – Italy
WEBSITE: www.pizzeriadacla.it
LOCAL PRODUCTS – TYPICAL CUISINE: The menu is divided in two parts: dishes and pizzas. The selection of main and second courses is limited (because they serve only local dishes), the variety of pizzas is extended, you can order different doughs instead of the classic one with white flour. In my opinion, the best dishes are “l’antipasto della casa” (typical dishes of Bari with seasonal products) and the little meatballs (5 different kinds). “Ciccio” needs a taste too, because it’s a special pizza made in Bari (its similar to piadina, but better). They use good quality ingredients.
LOCATION AND INTERIORS: It’s closer to ancient town of Bari (to visit just one time with a guide), few steps from big and ancient Normanno-Svevo Castle. Ten minute walk there is the downtown with bars, ice cream shops and cafè with local “movida”, not far away the well-lighted promenade.
Interiors are simple but well done and the place is quiet and well attended. Good service. During summer some tables are placed in a small outside space.
PRICES: Hors d’oeuvre – average € 7,50 // Meatballs – average € 6,00 // First Dishes – average € 7,50 // Second Dishes – average € 10,00 // Pizzas – average 6,50 // Ciccios (Like Piadina) – average 5,50 // Salads – average € 6,50
BIKER FRIENDLY: No Problem. During day there is few shadow.

Pizzeria “La Bruschetta” – Vieste (FG)
FLAG: Pizzeria “La Bruschetta”
ADDRESS AND TOWN: Via Cavour 3 – Vieste (FG) – Apulia – Italy
WEBSITE: None
LOCAL PRODUCTS: Instead of products of the season, is better to talk about local products. There isn’t an enormous variety of dishes and pizzas, few things but good. The menu is tipically for tourists, considering the town (one of the most famous and popular of the Gargano) and the period, you couldn’t expect a lot from a pizzeria opened from June to October.
LOCATION AND INTERIORS: It’s situated near the historical center, in a little square. The tables are disposed in this square, because is a pedestrian area. The traffic is very close to the tables anyway.
PRICES: Different menu, different prices.
BIKER FRIENDLY: During the day, there isn’t shade but you can find a parking space. It’s better by night.

The variety of pizzas (prepared only in the evening), gluten free too, and “paposce” (‘extended’ pizzas, stuffed with products of the season and ‘reclosed’) is enormous.
LOCATION AND INTERIORS: Pizzeria is on the highest area of Peschici, on a lateral little square, at the end of Corso Garibaldi and the beginning of Via Cavour. The furniture is simple, coloured with the white of houses in the town and the blue of sky. You can see the amazing view of beaches below by the inner room and the first clients can choose their table with panorama. There’s the open-plan kitchen.
